Save blood - Save lives.

Tridentify started as a public hospital commissioned project with a simple goal: to find a way of monitoring the temperature of a blood bag from vein to vein to waste less blood. This is something Interregional Blood Transfusion SRC Ltd.in Switzerland have been very successful doing. Since end of year 2020 they have been using the temperature monitoring system from Tridentify AB. The difference between Tridentify´s system and competitors’ system are that Tridentify´s system not only monitor the temperature, but it also monitoring remaining shelf-life in real-time. This will start to create Cost savings. Monika Finger, Distribution Manager at Interregional Blood Transfusion SRC says:” We use the Tracers on blood bags to monitor the temperature when they are outside the cold storage. For the blood bags not used we read out the temperature, and if the system shows there are remaining shelf-life, the blood bags can be saved for future use.” The blood bags are normally stored in +2C to + 6C in maximum 42 days. But can be for a limited time in temperature even up to +15C. As the Tridentify´s system calculates remaining shelf life when the blood bags are exposed to higher temperatures, the system will give an OK if blood bag can be placed back in the cold store instead of going to waste. Monika Finger says: “Last year we saved approximately 350 blood bags. The value for one blood bag is = 233 CHF”. This means that annually they are saving blood for a value = 80.000 CHF. These savings are of course reduced by the operating costs but are still in positive territory. “It´s not only about the money saved. There is often a low stock of blood. Every single bag of blood we can save can help ensure the supply for the patients (in the hospitals)", says Monika.

Samtidigt uppger WHO att cirka 20 procent av vaccin förstörs under logistiktransport och vacciner till ett värde av 6,6 miljarder USD förstörs varje år på grund av bristande temperaturkontroll. – En av våra kunder, Basque Health Service, investerade i vår lösning och jämfört med innan investeringen har de sparat 74 procent av de blodpåsar som tidigare kasserades, säger Johan Stormlund, VD på Tridentify. Ökade krav på garanterat korrekt transport Johan Stormlund har jobbat med temperaturövervakning inom läkemedelsindustrin i över 15 år. Han beskriver att förändringar inom läkemedelsindustrin oftast sker långsamt och att pandemin påvisat vilka problem som finns i logistiken idag om man jobbar manuellt och analogt. – Allmänheten har på grund av pandemin större kunskap om att läkemedel, som till exempel Covid-vaccin, är temperaturkänsliga. I och med det förväntar sig många att läkemedelsföretagen kan garantera att deras läkemedel har transporterats i en korrekt temperaturintervall. Men vårt system övervakar mer än temperatur, rörelse och ljus. Vi konfigurerar in produktens stabilitetsdata i vårt system vilket tar ett automatiskt kvalitetsbeslut om produkten är ok att använda eller inte. Med vårt system kan man alltså i realtid via app eller webbportal se hur mycket hållbarhetstid är kvar på produkten under hela transporten, fortsätter han. Se återstående hållbarhetstid i realtid Idag syns en tydlig trend i att nya läkemedel ofta är biologiska och i och med det mer temperaturkänsliga. För att då hinna hantera den mängd temperaturkänsliga läkemedel som transporteras globalt varje dag året om finns ett större behov av IoT-sensorer och automatiska temperaturavvikelsesystem. Ökade krav ställs alltså även på industrin att slå om till en digitalisering av Supply Chain Management. I kombination med att även myndigheter stramar åt kraven på temperaturövervakning lägger Tridentifys lösning en grund för en hållbar hantering av produkten som har transporterats i korrekt temperatur. – Vårt system är kvalificerat som ett Medical Device IIa, ett regulatoriskt krav för att det ska få ta ett medicinskt beslut. IoT och molnet gör information från vår sensor tillgänglig för alla med beviljad access. Lösningen är också hållbar eftersom vi, till skillnad från många andra aktörer, har hårdvara som återanvänds och uppdateras med nya kalibreringscertifikat när det behövs, säger Johan Stormlund.
